Official Statement issued by the Border Union Agricultural Society: Wednesday 10th February 2021 - Cancellation of the Border Union Show 30th and 31st July 2021

After much discussion the Border Union Show Directors have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Border Union Show scheduled for Friday 30th and Saturday 31st July. The guidance being given by the local authority indicates that large public gatherings will not be allowed this summer as the country hopefully navigates a successful exit from this terrible pandemic.

We appreciate that this will come as huge disappointment to many people, but The Border Union Agricultural Society (BUAS) takes its responsibility for the safety of its members, exhibitors, contractors, staff and the general public very seriously, and we believe that this is the only viable option at this time. It is also worth noting that it takes several months of planning to put on the show and that we have now reached the point where costs would start to be incurred should we consider a show, so decisive action is required.

We are committed to holding our Ram Sales on the 10th September 2021 which is viewed as a business-critical event by the local authorities, and planning for this event will commence shortly.

We can also report that the NHS are currently looking to utilise the BEC facility at Springwood Park as a community vaccination center which is excellent news.

Your continuing support of BUAS is very important for the future wellbeing of the society. We also look forward to welcoming you back to next year’s Border Union show on the 29 & 30 July 2022.

Please stay safe.

The Border Union Show

The Border Union Show is the highlight of the event and agricultural calendar for the Scottish Borders and Northumberland. The Annual Show is held on the last Friday and Saturday of July in the Borders Events Centre on the outskirts of the pretty cobbled town of Kelso.

The show is a traditional farming show with over 500 open competitions for horses, livestock and industrial arts. There are over 200 trade stands for everything you could imagine from tractors and farm supplies to clothing and food outlets. Our fantastic Food Fair welcomes producers from throughout Scotland and far beyond whilst the Craft & Gift Marquee is a treasure trove of unique and special gifts.

The children’s fun fair is the ideal place for the kids to blow off steam. There are catering outlets with tempting treats including seafood, crepes and the ever popular burger and chips. Of course, it wouldn’t be a good agricultural show without a bar or two.

We are busy finalising details for the main ring entertainment and very much look forward to making announcements very soon. To keep up with all the latest developments, follow “Border Union, Kelso” on facebook.

It certainly promises to be a great day out for everyone!
